The sweet sound of multiple reels screaming as each rod doubles over when your bait spread is suddenly ambushed by pack of monster wahoo or. a school of yellowfin tuna skyrocketing on an outrigger bait and burning 300yds of line off of a 50 wide better yet, the beautiful yellow, green, and blue colors of a mahi-mahi as it jumps to free itself from the end of your line.. That’s Holden Beach Gulf Stream Fishing at its finest with Feedin’ Frenzy Charters and Captain Keith Logan.

Holden Beach Gulf Stream Fishing with Captain Keith Logan and Feddin Frenzy Charters.

Wahoos are being caught in numbers in the 40 to 60lbs range. Mahi are showing up in shcool in the 10 to 15 lbs range with the bigger 25 to 30lbs mahi mixed in with them. Come and join in on the high speed action of stand-up tackle as you battle the fierce fighting creatures that call the Gulf Stream their home. The cobalt blue water of Gulf Stream is located some 60 miles offshore .

The wahoo are hanging around structure on the bottom and bait that is in the column. Mahi are schooled up around the Sargassum patches. Blackfin and Yellowfin Tuna are running the rip and hang around the temp. breaks. Trolling Ballyhoo on Capt. Joe Shute’s Fish Finder Shirts in black/purple or red/black. Capt. Joe Shute’s Fish Finder Wahoo Flasher with a Horse Ballyhoo on the planer line is a bomb. Barefoot Chin Weight with Ballyhoo on the long line works great of wahoo, mahi and tuna. South Chatham new “RPG” high speed wahoo lure is putting a hurt on the wahoo trolled at 12 to 15 knots.

The king mackerel fishing around Frying Pan Tower is Awesome. Kings this time of year can be found in schools with fish ranging in size from the 6 to 12 pound “snakes” to the 30 plus pound “smokers”. Kings can be found in areas where the surface temperature is between 68 and 72 degrees and located over bottom structure, such as ledges, wrecks and any rough bottom, holding bait fish for feedingk. Water color change or temperature breaks may also hold kings, as bait seems to gather up along these conditions. Trolling cigar minnows on 1oz and 4oz Pirate Plugs will produce the most kings for you. Kings will be moving in closer to shore as the water warms up. They can be found at the Horseshoe, 65 foot hole, Jungle and Shark Hole. We will all so have a run for big Kings that will be here around Mothers Day that are just of the beach. Live bait is the only way to go for them when they are on the beach.

Recreational grouper opens on May 1st. Grouper can be found in 75 to 180 feet of water. The best bait is on Live bait. The next best bait to use is boston mackerel. Also Recreational vermillion snapper opened on April 1st. vermillion snapper can be found in 75 to 150 feet of water. The best bait is cut boston mackerel or any kind of cut will work. Be sure to fish about 10 to 20 feet of the bottom. It’s hard to get thru the black sea bass to catch to grouper and vermillion snapper. Be sure to take a lot of bait with you. You’ll need it.

Spring flounder bite is at full speed. The water has warmed up and the bait is showing up in the creeks and waterway. We are catching 10 to 15 flounder on our half day charters with 6 to 10 being keeper in the 16″ to 20″ range. There also have been a few door mats too. Drifting mud minnows on Carolina rigs has been the most product way to catch flounder. When the bite slows down we anchor at the creek months or around docks casting mud minnows or gulp baits on Carolina rigs and 1/4oz Blue Water Candy jig heads.

The redfish bite in the Intracoastal Waterway has been awesome. When the tide is high, fish near the grass at the edge of the docks and when the tide is low fish out in front of the docks and in the deep hole in the creeks. The best baits for redfish have been mud minnows or Gulp baits. The key in the spring is not to work the bait or lures too quickly as redfish won’t chase your very far. By far live shrimp have been the best baits but they are hard to find this time of year. A secret weapon for the redfish in the spring is a cut soft shell blue crab.

Spring Is Here In Myrtle Beach And So Are The Fish. Carolina Inshore Slams of Red Drum, Flounder and Speckled Trout!

Come fish with one of the most successful Captains in the business and see what Myrtle Beach Fishing is about…

What great spring weather we are experiencing here in the Myrtle Beach area. The inshore fishing has really picked up over the past week and look for it to get better with the arrival of a number of inshore species. The flounder, sheephead, speckled trout and are early this year. The redfish are here in the best numbers we have seen since the fall.

The redfish bite has picked up in the backwaters of the Myrtle Beach and Ocean Isle Beach area. There are some large schools of reds roaming the flats and the sightfishing has been good when the winds are light. There are also smaller pods of reds in the creeks and around docks along the waterway. Double digit days on the reds have been common the past couple of weeks along with a few flounder and a lot of speckled trout. Gulp Shrimp, Swimming Mullet, and DOA Shrimp or paddletails are working well, along with shrimp and mud minnows pinned to jigheads or carolina rigs. The reds are already hitting topwater baits and look for the topwater bite to improve over the next couple of weeks.

It should be an early season for speckled trout and we are seeing some good signs for a good spring trout bite. The flounder are starting to show up in better numbers with more keeper fish in the mix. The sheephead fishing has turned on and hopefully we’ll have a good spring black drum bite. The small and large bluefish, and spanish makerel are not far behind.

Looks like it is going to be a great time to get on the water and experience some of the awesome inshore fishing we have in the Myrtle Beach area. I have some open dates for the spring and Easter breaks. Give me a call if you would like to get out there and do some inshore and backwater fishing. I can make it as simple as fishing in a farm pond for kids and inexperienced fishermen and fisherwomen. Thanks for reading the report and check out the photos from some recent trips.

Run a Inshore/Backwater Charter today at Holden Beach, N.C. The bite was a little slow on the rising tide. We did managed to catch 3 Flounder and few Speckled Trout. Had a few boat come by and ask if we where doing any good. That they had not caught anything. With the tide a high now and not moving yet we picked up and run a few miles from where we start to flats and flooded grass. When the tide started to fall it was one. 7 more Flounder with only one being a keeper at 16″. The Speckled Trout bite was on fire. We landed 27 cookie cutter spike trout and then final a nice 22″ Speckled Trout. It did not matter with we throw they would hit. We used Gulp Shrimp and Swimming Minnows. DOA shrimp also was working very will to for use. We also thrower mud minnows that produce a few Redfish for us. This is why my 35 years of fishing in the backwater for Flounder, Red Drum, Speckled Trout around Myrtle Beach, Little River, Sunset Beach Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach and Oak Island is hard to beat when it comes to landing and keeping fish to eat…

Sweet sound of multiple reels screaming as each rod doubles over when your bait spread is suddenly ambushed by a pack of monster Wahoo or how about a school of Yellowfin Tuna skyrocketing on an outrigger bait and burning 300yds of line off of a 50 wide better yet, the beautiful yellow, green, and blue colors of a Mahi-Mahi as it jumps to free itself from the end of your line.. That’s Myrtle Beach Gulf Stream Fishing at its finest with Feedin’ Frenzy Charters and Captain Keith Logan.

The mild winter that we had here in Myrtle Beach has got the bite off the a early start. The Gulf Stream bite for Wahoo, Mahi, and Blackfin tuna is about 3 weeks early. The mild winter has got the Gulf Stream waters pushed close to the break this year. This has Yellowfin Tuna biting going on now. The last good year for Yellowfin Tuna was 2006. Back before 2006 the Yellowfin bite would fire off just after March 15th and run thru the end of April. We are off to a good year fishing the Bluewaters of the Gulf Stream…

With the mild winter and above average March temperatures the Inshore bite is HOT… The Flounder bite is getting better as the days go by. We are catch flounder in the 14″ to 16″ range on Mud Minnows. Redfish are moving along the marsh grass and around piers. We have had the best luck with Live Shrimp when we can get them. Mud minnows are all so working well on the Redfish. The Trout are still hanging around the deep holes. Live Shrimp has been working well on the Trout too.
